What Kind of Church
is Community Bible Church?

We are a local gathering
of Christian believers.

We are a vibrant, caring community through which people can encounter God and find nurture for a life-changing relationship with their Creator and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. [more about Jesus Christ]

Some of our core values are:

  • Every member is considered to be a minister.
  • Every believer has God-given gifts and passions intended to build up the Church and to serve and glorify God.
  • We avoid clergy/laity distinctions.
[more about CBC's Philosophy of Ministry]

The ministries and activities of CBC are directed and supported by the spiritual gifts and passions given by God's Spirit to all believers for service.

We are non-denominational. We are committed to working with other like-minded churches in our area and with the Church worldwide. [more about CBC history]

We view our church as a local expression of the worldwide Church that consists of all people, in many denominations, who follow Jesus Christ. We are committed to supporting missions and outreach in Westchester, the metro NYC area and worldwide.

We are evangelical. Evangelicals are much in the news these days. An insider joke is that evangelicals are Christians that "fundamentalists" think are "liberals" and that "liberals" think are "fundamentalists". So what's an evangelical?

The word "evangelical" is used to describe a set of core beliefs about God, about Jesus Christ, about the Bible, and about how Christians view their purpose in life.

A Quirky and
Vibrant Mosaic

Evangelicals are admired, mocked, praised, scorned
—and all for good reason.

Offers a look at evangelical ministry and core beliefs.

But, recently, evangelicals have been associated in the media with a political agenda.

There are people in our congregation with political viewpoints that some might name as "liberal" and others with politics that some might consider "conservative." Our congregation includes Democrats and Independents and Republicans. Members of our congregation have a range of thinking about topics such as evolution, war, economics and various social issues.

We are not about political agendas.

We are all about the good news of Jesus Christ. We see Jesus revealed in the ancient words of the Bible. We see Jesus alive today and working in and through the lives of people who follow him and desire to become more like him. Is that something you want to see?

Our core beliefs are detailed in our church's "statement of faith." But wait -- before you read our statement of faith -- please consider, as we do, that people journey in their faith. Some of the words in our statement of faith might not match where you are in your beliefs.

As a local church community, we affirm these words because we believe they come from the ancient words of the Bible. We believe these words contain living truth as seen over the centuries in the everyday lives of people following Jesus.

For many people, our statement of faith may be shadowed by the many stories from human history where Christians failed to live up to the teachings of Jesus. For some, our statement of faith may echo distorted and unattractive sound bites about Christianity in our culture.

One way to see and hear if these words are true is to look closely at the everyday lives of people today who are following Jesus. You won't see perfect people in our church community. But, our prayer is that you will see God at work.

People have come into our church community from many different backgrounds -- including Catholic, Jewish, agnostic and atheist -- to travel with us in their journey of faith.

We invite you to travel with us.
Come and see Jesus with us.
